Stavroula Kourakou-Dragona

Stavroula Kourakou-Dragona was one of the most important figures in modern Greek wine. As an oenologist at the Ministry of Agriculture's Wine Institute and later its director, she contributed to the scientific study of Greek varieties and the establishment of appellations of origin.

She represented Greece at the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) and in 1979 she was elected the first female president of the OIV. Her work helped Greek wine gain a clearer international identity. Fun fact: she is also known as "Lady of the Vines".
